Almost There!

We’re just three days away from celebrating the 20th anniversary of RvBTO! Not 20 years straight of running the event, but 20 years since the first one. Here’s a rough timeline:

February, 2005: We screened RvB seasons 1-2 and Jeskid’s film Shades of Gray at the Hive, at Seneca College @ York University. This was not an official RvBTO, but it was the precursor event that showed there could be interest.

2005-2012: RvBTO is born and thrives. The first one was July 9, 2005, at the Ryerson University Centre for Computing and Engineering. It started as screenings, grew to include videos from the community, and eventually we got rid of all that and became a bunch of internet friends hanging out.

2013: RTO. The full name was either Rooster Teeth Toronto, Rooster Teeth Ontario, or Roosteronto, depending who you asked. There were good intentions here, but unfortunately the longevity wasn’t there for this iteration of the event.

2014-2016: Toronto Unconventional. It wasn’t quite RvBTO, but it was definitely the spiritual successor. Unfortunately, it was at about the time of the 2016 event that the RT community website relaunched into chaos, and the community scattered across the internet. It became unrealistic to reach everyone who would want to attend, plus we were directly competing with RTX for attendees, so the event folded. Until…

2024: Rooster Teeth shuts down, and one idiot (DiMono) decides he’s going to resurrect RvBTO to give the community a proper sendoff, on just a few months’ notice. Fortunately, he found a group of like-minded idiots to help him, and the event was able to hit all the old beats: Irish Carbombs, event shirts, charity, music from Nico, and just the right amount of unfiltered chaos. We also gave a certain EleBellyBear a sendoff, as she was the heart and soul of the Toronto RT community and of the event, and we miss her dearly.

2025: At the end of the 2024 event, one of the planning committee members decided on the spur of the moment to announce a 2025 event, and that brings us to now. 14 events over 20 years + 1 month, with a screening a few months before the beginning of that to kick it all off.

For those of you planning to attend, remember to bring changes of clothing, deodorant, and stay hydrated. If you’re coming out to the park on Sunday, bring sunscreen. There is no admission fee, so just show up, be you, and hang out with your goofy internet family. We’ll see you soon!

More Information

Hi, everybody! We’re just two and a half weeks out from the event now (18 days if you’re keeping count), so it’s probably a good time to put some more details out into the world.

About Tickets: The reason we don’t have tickets up for sale yet is that we’re not selling tickets for this year’s event. We’re keeping it super low key this year, and we don’t have any expenses or merch, so we really don’t have any need to ask you for money. Just show up, be you, and we’ll have a good time.

About Irish Carbombs: We’ve been running this event in various forms off-and-on for twenty years now. While the Carbomb Salute was a staple part of the event for much of that time, we kind of feel like it’s run its course as an official part of the evening’s festivities. We are arranging for them to be available at the bar for those who want one, however we will not be organizing an official RvBTO Carbomb drop this year. If you choose to do one yourself, be sure to tip your bartender well, as it is an off-menu item!

Travel and Lodging: If you’re coming from out of town, make sure you get this squared away! Prices tend to go up the closer to the date that you make your reservation, so don’t put this off for too long, or your expenses may be significantly higher than you expect them to be. Remember that sharing a room is a good way to keep costs down.

About Charity: We’re planning to allow folks who want to contribute to a group charity donation to do so. We’re still working out the details, and we will update this space when we have more to share with you.

Early Birds: For anyone who comes in earlier than Friday, there’s usually a small group of super early birds grabbing dinner at the Imperial on Thursday. This is not an official part of the event, but if you need something to do on Thursday night, it’s worth swinging by to see who’s there.

That’s all the info we have for you today. Since we’re not doing ticket sales we have no idea how many people are coming, so we will just cross our fingers and hope to see a lot of friends there!

We’re Back!

Hi, everyone! You might remember us from last year, when we said we were resurrecting RvBTO just one more time to commemorate the Red vs. Blue community. First of all, thank you to everyone who came out last year! We got to see a lot of old faces, a genuinely surprising amount of new faces, and we raised a bunch of money for CAMH in Eleanor’s honour. It was a truly great sendoff for the event and the community.

Then one of the people on the planning committee decided on the spot to announce we were doing it again this year. And then Burnie had to go and buy back Rooster Teeth and some of its properties, including our beloved Red vs. Blue. And then the world went up in flames, which means everyone could really probably use a break right about now.

So I guess that means we’re doing this again. Not with any big schedule of events this time – no concert, no Irish Carbomb tickets, not even a ticket price. This year we’re keeping it dirt simple: show up, hang out with your internet friends, try not to end up in jail. We’re viewing it as an internet high school reunion.

In keeping with our long and storied revival history going back a single year, we’re holding it during the final week of July, from the 25th-27th. The schedule, such as it is, is up on the Event Info page, and it’s exactly what you would expect it to be, though I will note that the specific park we’re going to hasn’t been confirmed yet – we’re currently saying Trinity Bellwoods because that’s where we were last year, and it seemed to go pretty well, but that might change between now and the event. We’ll keep you updated if that happens.

Anyway, that’s all for now, and we hope to see you there!
